RMI Visitors' Guide
- H04-03, Rocky Mountain Institute Visitors' Guide (PDF-580k)
- RMI's main building was built as a demonstration project to showcase what can be achieved in energy efficiency. Constructed between June 1982 and January 1984, the building was something of an experimental structure, designed to make the most of energy efficiency and alternative energy technology available at that time. This 52-page guidebook accompanies the RMI Headquarters Virtual Tour (November 2003).
General RMI
- E06-09, Energy Guru Lovins Sheds Management Duties to Plot 'Oil Endgame' (PDF-110k)
- Late last month Lovins announced that he would be shedding his role as CEO of the Rocky Mountain Institute, the energy and environmental "think and do tank" he founded in 1982. Free of management responsibilities, the Oxford-trained experimental physicist will become the Snowmass, Colorado, organization's board chairman and chief scientist. Lovins says the move will enable him to work more closely with Army manufacturers and others on RMI's ambitious "Winning the Oil Endgame" strategy (www.oilendgame.com). The three-year effort, which is now in its second year, is aimed at setting the course for eliminating U.S. oil use by 2040. This article, written by Greenwire reporter Michael Burnham, appeared in Greenwire (www.eenews.net/gw); (04 December 2006).
- G96-01, How Not to Parachute More Cats (PDF-308k)
- A meditation on the interconnectedness of actions, and the possibilitygiven a little foresightof devising solutions that multiply. Central to the argument is energy efficiency, which abates climate change and nuclear proliferation, reduces acid rain, saves tax dollars, frees capital for more productive uses in society, and boosts local economies. A good introduction to RMI's principles. 16 pages (1996).
