Website Helps Communities Pursue Economic Development
(02 May 2005)

Job Creation Possible through Energy Efficiency
RMI has launched an interactive website, the Community Energy Opportunity Finder (www.energyfinder.org), that calculates potential energy and dollar savings, air pollution emissions reductions, and potential jobs a community could create by implementing an energy efficiency program.

Restorative Solutions for Cities and Towns

A rapidly growing number of cities and towns seek durable solutions to local problems. They understand that short-term fixes, development-at-any-cost, and unchecked environmental risk are simply no longer viable strategies. They know that the old choice between economy and environment is not only unnecessary, it's also liable to backfire. In fact, communities and businesses are learning to prosper from environmental solutions.

A pioneer in restorative development, Rocky Mountain Institute is working with communities and businesses, finding practical solutions through integrated design, whole-system thinking, green design, and Natural Capitalism—ways to strengthen the community and build economic value while protecting and restoring the environment.

Because every community is unique, standardized strategies don't work. Collaborating with local individuals and groups, RMI seeks the most appropriate strategy for each particular community. We fill the role that makes most sense in a given situation: advisor, presenter, coach, facilitator, or process designer. We help citizens and leaders integrate locally generated solutions into a working strategy for development of the community and economy, and restoration of the environment.

For a description of RMI's services to communities see Community Services Offered.
